WEDDING SERIES: Danielle and Doug 11.11.17
Our first couple highlighted in our Wedding Series is Danielle + Doug who tied the knot last fall at the Chequit! We caught up with them this spring to talk about their special day.
How did you meet?
We were both working at an architecture firm in Sag Harbor and we figured out that the winters were better together with a beer at the local bar. We fell in love wandering around the bay beaches and spending long afternoons at the vineyards.
What is your best memory from the night of your wedding?
Cocktail hour. The ceremony was over and we could finally relax and have a few drinks with family and friends in the cozy lounge of the Chequit while a couple of our friends played music.
What made you select The Chequit?
We had friends in town one rainy weekend in August. Since we couldn't spend the day at the beach, we decided to drive around Shelter Island. We stumbled on the Chequit Hotel and stopped for a drink. We loved its charming porch, the cozy fireplace, and the peaceful island setting. We had been looking for a place on the East End to have our wedding, and since most of our guests were coming in from out of town, finding a hotel where everyone could stay together was perfect for us.
What was your wedding song and why?
Tom Waits - Little Trip to Heaven
We spent several weeks narrowing down some of our favorites. This stood out because the songwriting is simple and clever and it is great for slow dancing.
What would you tell a future couple planning their wedding that you wish you knew before you planned yours?
Whether you have a short engagement or a long one, you’ll be tempted to spend as much time as you have planning! We wanted a short engagement, but we knew we could spend infinite amounts of time designing all the details. We were happy to find a venue with so many things already in place: accommodations for our guests, a restaurant with delicious food, even the wedding cake! Knowing that the tables & chairs, place settings and lighting, (as well as countless other details) were taken care of by a professional staff allowed us to spend more time and energy with our friends and family.
